Mums and babies were heard screaming and crying after a lorry tore out railings outside a popular Braintree pub and restaurant.
A lorry struck a road sign and railings in Bocking End, outside the White Hart Hotel, around 3.30pm last Wednesday, causing the road to be blocked near Panfield Lane for several hours.
The road was closed until around 6.30pm.
The ambulance service did not attend the scene.
Eye-witnesses described the scene as “mayhem” and said the noise from the crash was “horrific”.
