Villagers are hoping to fight plans to build a 35.2-hectare quarry at a farm on the outskirts of Witham over concerns that their quality of life will suffer.

Landowner Simon Brice has submitted a planning application to Essex County Council to extract 2.5million tonnes of sand and gravel at the site at Colemans Farm in Little Braxted Lane, Little Braxted.

The application comes just weeks after after the county council finalised their replacement minerals local plan, which will see the majority of the county’s gravel extraction concentrated around the Braintree district until 2029.

See this week's Braintree and Witham Times for the full story.

I bet Simon would be up in arms if someone else did the same near his house. Typical show of selfish greed and ignorance. Nice one mate.
Surely there's scope for disability benefits for that large gut..... lol

35 Hectares?

That's space enough for around 1,000 new houses that might otherwise have been built on that bit of land.

Do I hear whops of joy from a certain quarter of Witham?

Seems they're a bit slow in coming - I wonder why.

I don't understand that either - why everyone has to be stuck up each others a***. Building so many houses so close to each other. Same mental problem with people that have to park next to another car in an empty car park!
