A man has been airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital following a three car collision on Sudbury Road, Halstead, this afternoon.
The emergency services attended a collision between three vehicles at 2.40pm and involved a white Fiat 500, a bronze VW Golf and a green Vauxhall Corsa.
Three fire crews attended, one from Halstead and two from Braintree.
Firefighters released four people trapped following the collision, using three sets of cutting equipment.
All the casualties were released by 3.40pm and left in the care of the ambulance and air ambulance services.
Five people were treated by ambulance staff.
One man was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge, with neck and abdominal injuries.
Another four casualties were taken to Colchester General Hospital.
Three were treated for minor injuries.
One elderly lady suffered serious chest injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening.
Four ambulances, two paramedic staff, the Essex air ambulance and a first responder car attended the scene.
