Thieves stole a mobile phone, which was left on top of a handbag in the front seat of a car.

The iPhone 4 was taken from an unlocked blue Ford Mondeo between 12.30am and 9.50pm in Kelvedon Road, Kelvedon on Saturday.

Sergeant Martin Richards, of Braintree Police, said: “We would like to remind vehicle owners of the need to lock their vehicles and not to leave valuable items either on show or in their vehicles at all.”

How suspicious doe this look?

A phone left in an unlocked car for over 21 hours. Nobody goes that long without their phone these days.

The phone was with a handbag that wasn't touched. An opportunist thief would have had both away.

Insurance scam?
