Patients call for improved transport links to hospital

First published in News

Patients travelling from Witham to Braintree Community Hospital have called the lack of regular service “disgusting and unacceptable”.

Patients from Witham currently face a mile-long walk or a taxi ride from Braintree bus station to the hospital on Rayne Road as it is not served by a regular bus.

Witham town council discussed the issue on June 24 after it was raised by a board member of Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group.

The council highlighted the Stansted Express connect 133 service is currently the only connecting bus to the hospital which stops there once an hour, which means some passengers using the 9.30am 132 service from Witham face a total journey time of 1 hour 45 minutes.

For the full story, see this week's Braintree and Witham Times.

So there is public transport but they have to wait. Tough. Wait. Read a book.

How dare these truculent selfish people label the service provided to them as ‘disgusting’. Always whinging about their sorry lot they seem to have no concept in their tiny minds of the huge advances that have been made on their behalf in the provision of medical care in the community which forever succours and protects them24/7.

Obviously there will always be room for improvement (as long as they are not invited to pay for it of course) but this is not and never will be a perfect world. There are occasions when we have to accept the status quo warts and all and be done with it.

Not far removed from these shores lie lands where folk would trudge barefoot for days to avail themselves of the sort of service we simply take for granted.

So what is it that makes an extra thirty minutes on their journey so DISGUSTING? Miss a bit of Jeremy Kyle do they ? - or perhaps they have to forgo a round of Bingo?

The only thing I find disgusting about this story is the fact some people choose to use that very word to describe something that has taken the sweat, blood and sacrifice of others to provide for them.

As for they declaring it UNACCEPTABLE? Fine, then don’t accept it; bugger off and make your own arrangements elsewhere - see who cares!

Maybe you should Listen to what Jack222 has to say. Get a book, but please please please get a proper one. I don’t think I could stand seeing you all sitting round the Bus Park doing puzzles.

All services available at Braintree Community Hospital are also available at Broomfield and/or St Peter's at Maldon. Patients are able to choose which of these they use. Both of these are served well by busses from Witham (albeit that you have to change at Chelmsford Bus Station to get to Broomfield).
