Primary school pupils are learning the importance of money management and long-term savings by creating their own bank at school.
Jane Bass, headteacher at Powers Hall Academy in Spa Road, Witham, launched Get Witham Saving on Thursday alongside Ray Payne, chairman of Holdfast Credit Union, scheme organiser Nick Redfern, pupils and parents.
The scheme helps schoolchildren in Year 6 open their own savings accounts at school to understand money budgeting and saving.
Mrs Bass said: “The children can save a little bit of money into their account each week and they can only take it out with parental consent.
“We are having lots of discussions at the moment about what they are wanting to save for.”
