A fire service instructor who has helped inspire thousands of young people has been awarded for his efforts.

Dad-of-one Lindley Chambers, who lives off Rayne Road in Braintree, received the Inspirational Leadership Award at a glittering awards ceremony at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service’s Kelvedon Park headquarters.

The award was presented to Mr Chambers, 40, for his role in leading FireBreak courses for more than six years.

The courses, which work with youth offenders, those in troubled families and those who are disabled or unemployed, have helped more than 3,000 young people aged 13 to 17 in Essex by teaching them fire safety, first aid skills and building their confidence.
