Industrial areas in Witham could benefit from five more years of increased safety as business owners cast their votes this month.

Members of Witham Industrial Watch launched their campaign to keep the Business Improvement District spanning Eastways, Crittall Road, Rosewood Business Park, Colemans Bridge and Freebournes Road at the start of July.

Improved safety measures including ten automatic number plate recognition cameras and 47 CCTV cameras have helped to cut crime by half in industrial areas since 2009.

Chairman of Witham Industrial Watch is urging business owners to take to the polls and said without ‘yes’ votes, the scheme would stop.

“It doesn’t come for free, we recognise that, but crime is so expensive for businesses and this scheme is working.”

Around 350 eligible companies in the BID area will be sent a voting ballot to be completed by July 31.
