A group of budding young Braintree stars have been invited to perform at Disneyland Paris.

More than 30 children aged between five and 12, who attend the Rascals theatre school at the Great Notley Community Centre, will perform on the famous Disney stage in August.

Rascals’ director Diane Neave sent a video of the children’s routine to the song Starships to an agency recruiting stars on behalf of Disney.

After an agonising wait, she discovered that the squad had won the chance to perform on the stage, beating schools from across the country who had also applied.

For months, the group have sacrificed every weekend to perfect the five routines which they will showcase to the crowds.

Diane has choreographed routines to compliment different decades from the hand jive to wild wild west and Austin Powers.

She said: “When people visit Disney they expect perfection from the shows, my kids have sacrificed birthday parties and holidays to make sure that’s what we give them.”

Seven-year-old Keira Wakefield said she didn’t mind working on the routines each weekend.

She said: “One day it was my birthday so Diane brought in balloons and a cake, it was like my very own Rascals party.”
