A savvy 23-year-old has secured himself a home using Help to Buy, making him one of the scheme’s youngest success stories.

Luke Tully, from Braintree, is now the proud owner of a newly built one-bedroom apartment in Basildon worth £135,000 after paying just £9,000 for a deposit.

Mr Tully, who attended Colchester Royal Grammar School and is now an assistant surveyor, previously commuted an hour and a half to Canary Wharf and bought the stylish Weston Homes property rather than renting.

He said: “I’d been saving for a deposit and had enough to secure an apartment, but liked the idea of using the Help to Buy scheme to give me more flexibility."
