Three people have been taken to hospital after a car overturned in a road accident.

The trio suffered neck and back injuries when a blue Fiat Punto and a red Citroen C4 collided on the A131 in Great Leighs at about 6.50am today.

Two ambulances, the hazardous area response team and a paramedic officer were dispatched.

The fire service sent two engines from Braintree and Chelmsford to the scene because one person was trapped.

Firefighters used a set of cutting equipment to release the casualty by 7.27am.

The three casualties were taken to Broomfield Hospital as a precaution.
