Anger at community centre plans to charge club members in advance

Pensioners have been left “incensed” after changes to the way they pay for community centre classes were proposed.

Braintree and Bocking Community Association, which runs the centre at Hollywood in Bocking End, is understood to be asking members of leisure classes to pay for their sessions six weeks up front in advance as opposed to £5.50 pay as you go per session.

But concerns have been raised that some pensioners may struggle to find the lump sum.

Association lead trustee John Gunson said: “We’re aware of the nature of the complaint and we’re following our normal procedure to deal with that matter and we have no further comment.”
