Most young girls would be terrified of cutting off their long locks of hair.

But for eight-year-old Keira Micallef it’s the second time she will be doing so for the Little Princess Trust who make wigs for children being treated for cancer.

Keira, who goes to Holy Family primary school, will be donating over seven inches of her long hair on Saturday and this time she will also be raising money for her late Nanny Beryl’s favourite charity, Blind Veterans UK.

Keira, who lives on Glebe Crescent, Witham, and has a three-year-old brother Frankie, first had her hair cropped into a bob when she was six years old and has let her hair grow out ever since.

Keira’s mum, Claire Micallef, who is a childminder, said: “We are very, very proud of Keira.

“I will also be relieved not to have to brush her hair every morning.

“Last time we didn’t quite break £1,000 but it would be amazing to get that this time round.”

Hairdressers at Yaxley Hair on Newland Street, Witham, will be cutting Keira’s hair at 10.30am, Saturday 21 June.
