A bright bunch of schoolmates are off to Oxford University today to compete in a national quiz competition.

Eleven-year-old Charlie Arbuckle, nine-year-old Callum Gomez-McDaid, nine-year-old Matthew Price, and eight-year-old Charlie Garner of White Court School will take on school teams from across the country in the hope of winning the final of the Quiz Club Championships.

The boys were chosen from in-class heats and competed at Lawford Mead Junior School in February then Stock Primary in Ingatestone in May for their chance to win the largest inter-school competition in the UK.

More than 300,000 children enter the Quiz Club each year and White Court have reached the semi-finals twice in the past seven years.

They were victorious against 11 other schools from Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk and Greater London in this year’s semi-final, winning by 310 points.

Head teacher Diane Deans said: “We are extremely proud of the achievements of the four boys and wish them all the best for the final.”
