Essex fire crews attended an incident this morning where a double decker bus was completely alight on the M11.

Three crews were called to the M11 northbound between junctions eight and nine just after 10am.

All passengers had evacuated from the vehicle by the time fire crews arrived and the fire was extinguished by 11:15am.

A 24 hour Fire Brigades Union strike began this morning and the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has warned the public to be extra careful.

UPDATE: There are significant delays on the M11 northbound with one lane closed between junctions eight and nine.

The Highways Agency has advised motorists to expect delays of up to an hour while the lane remains closed for the next several hours.

Those wishing to travel to Stansted airport in particular are advised to plan their journeys and allow extra time to travel.
