Millions of pounds could be spent improving access to Braintree via the A120 as part of long-term plans to dual the road.

Braintree Council has allocated £2.5million in funding to improve access and congestion into the town centre.

The improvements, which have not yet been specifically designed, could include new slip roads and roundabouts and changes to the Galleys Corner roundabout.

It is estimated that the improvements, which cost up to £13million in total, may be delivered by December 2017.

Braintree Council hope to invest about half of their New Homes Bonus (NHB), based on the additional council tax revenue raised from new homes, into the project.

The rest of the £13million could come from Essex County Highways and the Highways Agency, but no investment has yet been made.
