The North West Essex Ramblers has organised the trip for Sunday.

It will start at Braintree railway station, where walkers will catch a bus to Takely and return via the Flitch Way, a 15 mile route along the former Bishop's Stortford to Braintree railway.

The name of the way comes from a medieval ceremony in Little Dunmow which still take place every four years. Married couples had to try to prove that they hadn’t argued for a year and a day, and if they were successful they were rewarded with a Flitch - another name for a side - of bacon.

The route is very picturesque and offers the chance to see an abundance of wildlife and plants.

The group is meeting at the railway station at 10am sharp and will be walking 13 miles. Walkers should bring their own picnic lunch.
