Residents fear treasured countryside could “all get buried under concrete” if a deal to inject millions of pounds into the dualling of the A120 and build thousands of new homes comes to fruition.

Crowds of residents packed Bradwell village hall to hear a heated discussion on the proposal, includind a new settlement on the outskirts of Braintree and another next to Marks Tey.

Renee Hockley-Byam, a member of Bradwell Parish Council’s A120 Committee, said: “We want to see the A120 dualled but don’t think it should be at the expense of extra houses and traffic.

“If the council went ahead with the deal, we would feel as though it was a sell out.”
