The air ambulance was scrambled after an 11-year-old was impaled on a chair leg at a primary school.

Ambulance crews, fire engines from Braintree and Chelmsford and the Herts Air Ambulance were called to Rayne Primary School, in Capel Road, at around 1.30pm last Thursday, after the boy injured himself on the chair.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “An 11-year-old boy impaled his leg on a chair leg.

“We were there to assist to get him off the chair.

“We were finished by 1.56am and the boy was left in the care of the ambulance service.”

Pain relief was given to the boy by paramedics at the scene before he was taken by land ambulance to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, for further treatment.
