A frightened pensioner felt her house was going to collapse on top of her after broken power cables struck her roof.
Loose power cables fell onto an elderly woman’s house in Highfields Road, Witham, at 1pm on Monday after a lorry struck them overhead.
The cables smashed into the widow’s roof, causing tiles to crash onto the pavement in front of the front door.
The homeowner, who did not want to be named, said: “The noise was terrific.
“It was more than a bang, it just kept on and on."
