First Groomfest fundraising event
11:00am Sunday 18th May 2014 in News
A pub has organised a day of live music for charity.
The Horse and Groom Pub, Rayne Road, is holding its first “Groomfest” fundraising event, which the organisers are hoping to make an annual event.
Landlord Stuart Buckley, who started running the pub last year, said: “We want to be known for putting on live music and currently already have some fantastic bands who perform in the pub.
“We thought a great thing to do would be to bring loads of bands here for one day and raise some money for two charities, Prostate Cancer UK & Macmillan Cancer Support.
“We chose these as one of our musicians has been supported by Macmillan and another has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“We are looking forward to the day and are hoping to raise £4,000 for the charities.
“There will be one solo performer and eight bands from all over the country and we are building a stage in the garden for them to perform on.
“All ticket money will be going to the charities and we will be having collection buckets as well.
“There will be a hog roast and a BBQ; this event is all about the music.”
Acts include Rekovered, The Love Marbles, Freebird, Full Mental Racket and the headline act is Rainbow Rising.
The event takes place next May 25 from 12pm to 12am. Tickets are available from the pub and are priced at £8 in advance and £10 on the door, with all ticket money going to the charities.
