Whistleblowers have been praised for helping bring issues at Braintree's biggest care home to light.
An undercover Panorama investigation at the Old Deanery followed contact from Compassion in Care - a charity which supports people reporting misconduct in care.
Concerns about the Old Deanery were allegedly first raised with bosses and authorities by 11 whistleblowers in August 2012.
Essex County Council and the CQC investigated and found that staffing levels were "woefully inadequate" and some residents were waiting too long for call bells to be answered.
Special measures were put in place, but concerns remained and the whistleblowers approached charity, Compassion in Care, which in turn contacted Panorama.
Speaking to the Times, Compassion in Care founder and director, Eileen Chubb, said she was "proud" of the whistleblowers for speaking out.
She said: "They got the wrongdoing stopped and we helped them to do that.”
