There are 15 heritage buildings in the Braintree area that have been classified as “at risk” by Essex County Council.
The Council’s Heritage at Risk register lists all the Grade I, II* and II buildings in the area that are deemed to be in need of repair.
If the Halstead area is also included, the Braintree district has one of the highest number of items on the register for Essex at 22, ranking it fifth.
Nine of the 15 buildings in the Braintree area have been listed in the top three priority categories, meaning that there is a high risk of them deteriorating further, and five of them are classed as the top priority as they are at an immediate risk of falling apart.
