A grandmother is looking to sue a council after her second fall from a controversial Braintree path.

Judy King, 67, is housebound for six weeks and could take up to a year to recover after breaking her femur and suffering severe bruising after falling from a 6ft high path in the Blackwater Nature Reserve.

The Gilbert Way, who has enlisted a no win/no fee injury lawyer, had been walking her son’s Border Terrier dog, Bramble, when she tried to get down the steep slope from the path to pick up the dog’s mess.

A council spokesman said: "The new path itself has been created within all safety perimeters required for a cycleway of this nature.

“In creating the first stage of the cycleway safety and accessibility have always been a priority and whilst it is raised in parts to allow the gradient to be kept level, it is also 2.5 metres wide, meaning it can be safely accessed by pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchairs and pushchairs alike.”
