Police launch investigation after Panorama programme exposes care home failings

First published in News

Police have launched a criminal investigation after shocking undercover footage at Braintree’s biggest care home was televised.

The BBC Panorama programme, Behind Closed Doors: Elderly Care Exposed, was broadcast last night and revealed a catalogue of poor care and mistreatment at The Old Deanery Care Home in Bocking.

In one clip, a careworker was seen slapping resident Joan Maddison, who suffers from dementia and is partially paralysed following a stroke.

Anglia Retirement Homes, which runs the 93-bed care home, apologised for the failings and said it was “shocked and saddened”.

The care worker responsible for slapping Mrs Maddison has now been dismissed, while seven other members of staff have been suspended.

Police are now also looking into the matter.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “BBC’s Parorama programme was viewed by detectives and, as a result, an investigation has now begun.

“The force did request an advanced preview viewing of the programme but this was declined.

“If members of the public wish to report any allegations of crime relating to this matter they are asked to contact Essex Police.”

Unsurprising from a terrible SH*T hole such as this town, I mean it has always been the pretender to the posh throne.
Now full of the cast off's from Loughton and Stanford Rivers. Its seen as the new riche, home of Essex. Things have not changed much since the days of The Local Nightclub and The infamous friend of London Crimbos that used to run the town. I mean he hired someone to come along and blow his wife away and the hit man blew his ear off in the process just to get at the insurance money.
Leopards never changed their spots and this area has always been mutton dressed+ I feel sorry for the old biddies that are getting their heads kicked in, when they think they are supposed to be looked after.

I'm glad it's a criminal investigation now, it always should have been. I hope the managers are charged with failing to report a crime. When they were forced to stop turning a blind eye to what was going on they should have reported it straight away.
