CAR journeys are rarely a smooth ride nowadays.
Wherever you travel you face the likelihood of hitting one, if not several, potholes.
But it is not just car drivers who are at risk when it comes to potholes.
A recent Freedom of Information request found 2509 claims have been made against Essex County Council by members of the public since 2009 regarding alleged injuries sustained by tripping over or falling into potholes in public areas.
In total £2,989,732.80 has been paid out by the council.
