Villagers have voted against proposals to pay £10 extra per year to have their street lights switched back on.
Cressing Parish Council conducted a straw poll of residents to see if there was support for the idea of keeping all lights on overnight.
But 61 of the 85 respondents said they would not be willing to pay the extra money.
Street lights operated by Essex County Council (ECC) have been turned off from midnight to 5am each night in Braintree district since September 1 last year.
