A CYCLIST who died after being hit by a train may have been “trying to beat the train across the crossing,” an inquest has heard.
Michal Majzner, 30, had been on his way to work a nightshift at Village Glass on the Eastways Business Park, Witham, when he was hit by the London Liverpool Street to Norwich train while using the Motts Lane crossing in Witham.
Gary Mathias, a fatal accident investigator for the British Transport Police, told the inquest at Chelmsford Coroner's Court, said that the train, which was not stopping at Witham station, was travelling at 100mph at the time of the accident and that it was the driver’s opinion that the man was “trying to beat the train across the crossing.”
A postmortum found the cause of death to be hemorrhagic shock caused by multi-organ failure and the verdict was accidental death.
