Braintree and Witham Times: Councillor predicts strong opposition as plans emerge for solar farm Councillor predicts strong opposition as plans emerge for solar farm

Plans have emerged for a solar farm the size of 15 football pitches.

Lightsource Renewable Energy has announced it is working on designs for two new solar farms in north west Essex, including one on land west of Hawkspur Green, near Great Bardfield.

It claims the 18,392-panel solar farm would produce enough energy to power 1,261 homes.

A formal planning application is yet to be submitted, but Great Bardfield parish councillor Tony Hayward, who has lived in the area for almost 60 years, believes there will be huge opposition to the plans.

We need solar power; just view it as another crop. Don't like the view? Get them to plant a hedge as part of planning permission.

Bet the NIMBYs will complain and keep using electricity generated by those ever so beautiful nuclear power plants...

NIMBYs hypocrites? Really?

I agree with Jack. I bet they'd complain even louder if somebody wanted to put up a few wind turbines!

Solar farms are low level, and unobtrusive. Nobody seems to complain when people put them on their rooves, two storeys up.

Unobtrusive - do what.

that same company have just built one on the very edge of Utlesford district, but on the next field to Great Notley country Park which is in Braintree district, so Braintree did not see the plans,

the field did have a lot of paths from the country parks and numerous small ponds with rare plants and wild life.

The site is easily seem from the Country Park and also the main A131 by the Great Leighs race course

Actually, they support diversity of both wildlife and plants - compared to farming where the land is dedicated to whatever crop is in place, solar farms allow nature to run its course at ground level.

Also, why do you keep saying that NIMBY is a racist term? This shows YOU to be the idiot. As well you know, NIMBY is an acronym for "Not In My Nack yard". This applies to anybody of any race, religion, gender, sexual preference, disability or age who objects to something in their area, but wants it to be somewhere else so that they can benefit from it.
