Two determined friends are hoping to raise money for a diabetes charity.
Julian Coxell, 26, of Stubbs Lane, a quantity surveyor, who has Type 1 diabetes, and Tom Maynard, 27, of Albemarle Gardens, have so far raised £700 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a charity aimed at supporting young people who have Type 1 Diabetes.
The pair are hoping to raise over £2,000 by running the London Marathon, which has helped Mr Coxell cope with the condition after he was diagnosed about a year ago.
The former student of Alec Hunter High School said: “It was a real shock to be diagnosed with diabetes.
“Friends had mentioned that I had lost a lot of weight and I felt really tired all the time. I went to the doctors and was very surprised to be diagnosed.
“I decided to do the marathon as it gives me motivation to keep myself active and look after myself, but also I wanted to prove to myself that I can do it.
“Julian has been great; it’s good to have someone doing it with you.”
