Budding writers tried their hand at being journalists for a day.

Year Eight pupils from Maltings Academy, in Spinks Lane, Witham enjoyed taking part in the BBC School Report challenge, along with 30,000 other children across the UK who took part in the annual competition.

The students raced to research, interview, write and upload their stories to the BBC website before the deadline of 4pm.

Michael Grant, associate English teacher at the school, said: "The students work so hard in English and this gives them an opportunity to take those skills and use them in a different context."
