Police are calling for witnesses after damage was caused to a back door during an attempted break-in.

Damage was caused to the frame and lock of a secure UPVC rear door during an attempt to get into the property in the Challis Lane area of Braintree yesterday between 3pm and 5.20pm.

PC Victoria Butler, of Braintree Police, said: "Fortunately the door was fitted with a five mortice lock and the thieves were unable to force it.

"But if anyone saw any suspicious activity around this time then I would be interested to hear.

"It’s also worth reminding householders to make sure they also leave their properties locked and to remain vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles or people in their neighbourhood by calling police on 101, or 999 if they believe a crime is in progress.”

Anyone with information can call PC Butler at Braintree Police Station on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
