Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious crash left a woman in critical condition.

The woman was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge with life-threatening injuries after a collision between a black Ford KA and a black Mercedes convertible on the A131 at High Garrett, between Braintree and Halstead, on February 9 at 2.15pm.

The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger from the Ford were taken to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, for treatment and later released.

Police are urging for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Damon Bainbridge, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The woman remains in a critical condition in hospital and we are unable to speak to her.

"We are, therefore, very keen to speak to other motorists who were in the area at the time and may have seen the collision between these two vehicles or witnessed events leading up to it.

"We believe there was a queue of traffic at the location when this happened and I am confident that there were people sitting in their cars who have valuable information for our investigation."

Sgt Bainbridge said that anyone who saw the collision or who has other information which could prove useful can contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
