Town councillors are hoping to have a big say on how £130,000 will be spent in regenerating Witham.
The money will be given to Braintree Council by Morrisons as part of a Section 106 agreement in connection with its Braintree Road extension plans, which were granted on appeal.
At a Witham Town Council meeting last Monday, Cllr Michael Lager claimed it was important the council opened discussions with Braintree Council as soon as possible over how the money should be spent.
Cllr Robert Evans added: “It seems to me the inspector’s report specifically stated £130,000 should come to Witham.
“We need to claim that and find ways to ensure we get that £130,000, not instead of anything else they should give us.
“Braintree, up to its old tricks, could work a flanker on this one.”
Councillors voted in favour of requesting a meeting with Braintree Council to discuss town centre schemes the money could be invested in.
