Following the taster session, which begins at 9.15am, a four week course starts on March 6.

Each session lasts about 1.5 hours and the course costs £39.

On completion of the course, participants will receive a free five-walk UDC Nordic walking card, worth £20.

Booking essential and space limited, call Uttlesford Council on 01799 510510 for more information and visit uttlesford.gov.uk/nordicwalking to complete a health questionnaire before attending.

Do you really need to pay for a 4 week course to learn how to walk with poles? Complete rip off.

It's good that new activities are being showcased for people to try, but as usual, those of us at work 9am-6pm don't get a look in.

Thirty nine quid?

That's nothing. It’s just ‘peanuts’ in comparison to the hundreds of pounds you can spend on kitting yourself out with all the 'must have special gear' such as shoes, clothing and legions of other accoutrements you are going to need if you are minded to keep up with the Jones should you get carried away by this latest craze.

If you want a fright then go on line and browse through one or two of the Nordic Walking Equipment Supply Catalogues and tot it all up.

Ha ha - someone somewhere is going to make an absolute killing out of this latest fad that’s for sure.

Suckers!

Just find a local rambling club - they would give you this tuition for free (and many walks have a pub lunch half way round).

There are more than 20 groups in Essex alone affiliated to the Ramblers Asociation http://www.ramblers.
