A woman has died in hospital following a road crash on Canvey Island.
The elderly pedestrian, who lives locally, was struck by a blue Ford Focus at the junctions of Mitchells Avenue and Gains Close shortly before 10am yesterday.
The 83-year-old woman was taken to Basildon University Hospital by paramedics with a head injury but died there a few hours later.
The female car driver, in her 30s, was uninjured.
A section of the road was closed for five hours while forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries at the scene in an attempt to find out the cause of the crash.
Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses.
