As Witham was lashed by a dramatic hailstorm followed by a perfectly formed rainbow, one photographer captured the whole scene on camera.
Freelance snapper Chris Cook, 27, of Braintree Road, Witham, took these striking pictures as the freak weather unfolded on Monday afternoon.
A tornado-like cloud can be seen rolling over Morrisons followed by a double rainbow suspended over the rooftops, all in the space of about 20 minutes.
Mr Cook, who also works as a barman, said: “I was taking a timelapse video of the clouds passing when it turned dark very quickly.
“After I captured the first shot I thought I’d check in the other direction, and saw the rainbow.”
