Great Leighs Racecourse has formally submitted its application to host meetings at the track next year.

The venue’s new operators, led by Betfred owner Fred Done, hope to bring racing back to the troubled course after six years without fixtures.

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has confirmed Great Leighs was one of two new applicants who met last Friday’s deadline to bid for the 2015 fixture list.

A BHA spokesman said: “The applications to participate in the 2015 fixture allocation process will now be considered by BHA before recommendations are presented to the board at its meeting in April."
