A week after setting aside £75,000 for Braintree Town FC, a council has been accused of neglecting the area’s other sport clubs.

Braintree Council has allocated money in its 2014/15 budget for design work for the Iron’s proposed new stadium in Panfield Lane.

But Witham Town FC has branded the decision “disgraceful” and says it receives no financial help from the authority.

Chairman Tony Last said: “If you’ve got Braintree in front of your name you get everything, and if you have Witham in front of your name you get nothing.”

A Braintree Council spokesman said: “The budget proposal is not sponsorship, but rather loan funding which will enable the club to work with the council to undertake initial design and project management work."
