A UNION has slammed plans to privatise support workers at two Witham schools.

The GMB says non-teaching staff at the Maltings and New Rickstones academies face being transferred to a joint venture company, which is 49 per cent privately owned.

It is part of a move by parent charitable group the Academies Enterprise Trust to move 525 staff at 79 schools nationally.

A statement on its website said the trust hoped to increase the money and resources it put into its schools.
