The Ministry of Defence (MoD) says the purpose of an “urgently required” new building at its police training base is confidential.

A planning application for a new modular training building at the MoD base in Wethersfield was lodged on January 22.

The building, which will have 30 parking spaces, will be able to accommodate 40 trainees and eight staff at a time.

A statement from applicant agent Templeman Design said: “The use of this building is going to be for training purposes, no further information on user can be revealed.

“The facility proposed is an urgent request and the development must be started within March to enable completion a few weeks after, so the facility can be immediately used.”

The former RAF base has been used as a training centre for MoD Police since 1991.

A public consultation period on the application closes on February 19.
