Fire-hit pub reopens under new name and management

First published in News

A pub has finally reopened after major refurbishment following a fire.

The Albert, on Chipping Hill, Witham, had been closed since a first-floor fire broke out at the pub in September.

It had originally been due to open under new management and a new name, The Railway, in mid-December.

However, the damage caused by the fire was more extensive than first thought.

It re-opened for the first time on Saturday.

why?, not all pubs are named after the road they are in. The railway reflects the fact its near a train station! Good luck to the new people running it, hopefully it will now be a pub you want to eat and drink in as in recent times I believe it was one to be avoided by most!

I suspect that the road was named after the pub, not the other way round.

Sorry keith,
if that was the case the street would be named "Black Boy Road", the name the pub had before it was called "The Albert".
And also the pub is on the corner of "Chipping Hill" and "Braintree Road"...
