A man is currently in police custody after having been arrested in connection with a lead theft.
Residents on Braintree’s Glebe estate described how they were woken in the early hours of this morning as police carried out a search of the area using the force helicopter.
Police had been alerted by a member of the public who reported “suspicious banging noises” in the Sandwich Close area at about 2.40am this morning.
On arrival, officers found a ladder up to the roof of garages and it appears that someone had been in the process of removing lead from the roof.
The police helicopter was called in to make an aerial search of the area.
At about 3.30am a man was arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of drugs.
The 25-year-old from Braintree is currently in police custody.
