Members of a golf and country club have raised more than £13,000 for charity in just a year.

The Crossroads Charity, based in the Braintree and Chelmsford, supports young carers and the people they care for.

Gary Brown and Lesley Sherer, club captains of Benton Hall Golf and Country Club, decided to support the charity by raising £10,000 during their year of captaincy with their management and members of the club.

A charity auction raised more than £4,700, quiz nights held by the seniors section raised more than £1,000, Captain’s competitions throughout the year raised more than £2,000 and club member Alan Moore raised £1,100 by running the London Marathon.

The club beat their target and were able to present Crossroads representative Clare Reeve with a cheque for £13,173, the largest annual sum raised by captains throughout the club’s 20 years.
