A mum is taking on the challenge of running a half-marathon to raise money for a fire-ravaged school.

Deb Harrison, of Bedells Avenue, Black Notley, will be taking part in the Great Bentley half-marathon on February 9 to raise money for the John Ray Infants School, which was destroyed by a fire in August.

Mrs Harrison’s two children, Rhiannon, 12, and Eddie, nine, attended the school when they were infants.

She said: “The school was an important part of our lives and is an important part of the community. It’s such a shame.

"This will be my first half-marathon, so I am keen to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
