A stretch of road renowned for accidents is set to undergo a £50,000 upgrade.

Three sites on the road between Black Notley and Witham, travelling through White Notley and Faulkbourne, are being proposed for re-design work.

Accidents have frequently been caused by drivers losing control on bends in the villages.

Essex County Council (ECC) has proposed a casualty reduction scheme for the route, focusing on two separate locations in Witham Road, White Notley, and one site in Witham Road, Faulkbourne.

From May 2008 to April 2013, 22 people suffered injuries as the result of 17 separate crashes at the three sites.

The road includes 30mph, 40mph and 60mph sections, but villagers have called for lower speeds along the whole route.
