CCTV coverage in Witham could be scaled back as the town council seeks to spent its money on other projects.
Witham Town Council currently funds eight cameras, which are monitored round-the-clock from the Essex Police control room in Chelmsford.
But a reduction in crime levels in the town could see the council alter its budget, according to its leader.
The cameras are mostly positioned along Newland Street, in addition to one at Morrisons, in Braintree Road.
