A headteacher who was once the youngest to be appointed in England and Wales is leaving his school after accepting a promotion.

Steven Clark, currently headteacher at Tabor Academy in Panfield Lane, Braintree, will leave the secondary school, which is sponsored by Lilac Sky Schools, at the end of March.

He will become director of learning and an executive principle for Lilac Sky Schools, overseeing three new schools to be opened in 2015.

Mr Clark, who was just 30 when he became headteacher, was previously due to leave Tabor Academy in 2011, when he was expected to become the headteacher of the Philip Morant School in Colchester.

However, he asked to be released from the post shortly after being appointed as he felt “deeply committed” to Tabor Academy.

He said: “I am going to be on the board of Lilac Sky Schools and working with schools on their improvement as we did with Tabor which has moved forward in the last few years.

“I have loved Tabor but this is an opportunity to do similar things in other schools. I think it’s the right time for me and the school, it’s been a great experience and I have enjoyed every minute of it.”
