Traditional dancing and singing marks Plough Monday at brewery

Morris dancers blessed the beer at a new brewery as part of a traditional celebration dating back centuries.

The Good Easter Molly Gang visited the Bishop Nick base in East Street, Braintree, yesterday as part of a day-long tour to mark Plough Monday.

The agricultural celebration historically takes place on the first Monday after Epiphany.

A coachful of revellers, with black faces and peasant costumes, descended on the brewery at 10am and began singing and dancing, as well as sampling the local brew.

Brewer Nelion Ridley said: “It’s bad luck to charge the Molly Dancers for beer, but it was an honour to have them christen our new brew house in Braintree."

Come on Bhudeeka sweetheart. We can’t get away with taking the mickey out the good burghers of Braintree forever – we’re bound to be rumbled one day.

We may as well come clean. Let’s confess now and be done with it.

I think we should tell everyone that that video is nothing to do with a bunch of dodgy country bumpkins strutting their stuff around the BN Brewery. It’s a wretched paparazzi film of you and me tripping the light fandango at the Newsquest Ball. How they ever got past security I shall never know.

But wow! what a night that was eh?

XX Yours forever.

Ommy.

Yeah. I'm afraid the cat is well and truly out of the bag this time STR.

Just to think of all those wonderful times we had dancing the night away in the likes of Annabel's and the Café de Paris - only to go and outed at the BWT poxy annual Knees Up!

Still, she'll have to make an honest geezer out of me now won't she? I trust that I can put you down as Best Man?
