A brass band has raised cash for a fire damaged school to buy new musical instruments.

Bocking Concert Brass presented a £1,200 cheque to John Ray Infant School staff and pupils after their building burnt down on August 31.

Kate said: "Our aim was to try to fund the purchase of some new musical instruments for them.

"We held a concert in Braintree Arts Theatre (which was kindly supplied free of charge).

"It began with a very entertaining opening from some of the children from the infants, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

"Then we played a varied program of brass music."

The band also held a raffle, with the first prize, a one-hour flight from Andrewsfield Airfield for two adults.

A total of £500 was raised through ticket sales (which the band then matched) and £200 on the raffle.
